Power Supply in Inductor (PSI2)

Sumida has developed a proprietary technology for POL power modules where all components are integrated inside the inductor. In contrast to more traditional approaches this technology offers some key advantages:
 The full size inductor has the lowest possible losses, giving the module a very high efficiency.
 The magnetic material provides shielding to minimize noise and EMI.
 The magnetic material has good thermal conductivity, avoiding any hot spots in the module.

This technology is ideal for output currents in the range 3A and above.

Convenience and reliability
These modules are very easy to use. They look like an inductor but are actually a complete power module. All you need to add are the input and output decoupling capacitors. All high current switching circuits are internal so there is no need to worry about board layout affecting the operation.
Each and every production power module is extensively tested, so you can rest assured. In contrast, a POL using discrete components on the user's motherboard may have undetected modes of failure not caught during system testing. This is because most power supply functions - voltage regulation, ripple, current limiting, overvoltage shutdown, etc - cannot easily be tested when the power supply is connected to the rest of the system, as it is with a discrete POL solution.
